2. The dataset

The dataset has five variables, four category (qualitative) and one quantitative variable
 

- passenger the names of the passengers, the crew is not included in this list.
- classthe class in which the passengers traveled, at that time three classes were normal
- genderthe passenger was either female or male
- survival the passenger survived or did not survive the disaster
- ageage of the passenger in years

 

You have to bear in mind that this dataset is over one hundred years old. The disaster took place in 1912.

At the beginning of the last century the social conditions were very different from now.

There was a great distinction in social classes and child labor was not uncommon.

In the countryside, especially in Ireland, poverty and sometimes famine prevailed.

Many people were looking for their salvation elsewhere and emigrated to America.
